Nikon D3s Pre-review

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

So today we put in our order for the Nikon D3s.  It was about time we thought about backing up our D3 and although another D3 would have been the best choice, we figured why not the D3s as our primary and save that D3 for the backup.  Thing was – despite a lot of people having their hands on the D3s, and it being released now for a little while I had a really difficult time finding some reviews for it.  This being said, I took the liberty of finding some of the relevant articles and videos I could.  This youtube video has had very few views considering I would call it the best video review for the D3s so far.  This article has a great ISO comparison that left me feeling very comfortable with the prospect of owning one of these bad boys.

All in all, I’m really looking forward to getting my hands on one of these guys.  We should be receiving ours this upcoming Friday, two days from now.  Certainly hard to wait, but most likely worthwhile.  Hope this helps anyone looking to pick one up a D3s or at least considering it.  As for anyone who is not sure about making the leap to fullframe to begin with, take your time, and be sure to do your fair share of research before making any purchases.

Reasons to love my job!

Last night I got together with songwriter and artist Steve Lewin.  We had a photo shoot to promote his newly released album and it was a fairly great way to spend an evening.  Steve has written and composed the entire album out of his bedroom and frankly aside from being impressed, the music is right up my ally too.  We decided to take a few shots of him under some controlled condition, then we moved it out onto the street on the way to a gig he had that night, wrapping up the shoot with a cold beer, some great tunes and a live performance by Steve and some other musicians at his Songwriter’s Lounge.  His website is in the works so I don’t have a link to direct you to it just yet.  But in the mean time here are a few of my personal favourite shots from the night.

This is just one reason why I find being a photographer to be so exciting.  I get to meet all sorts of people and on a night where I get to hang out and listen to some music, I can’t complain much about the work side of things.  Thanks to Steve, Gavin and all the other people who played last night!  And James for posing for a couple of pics too.

Thank you for reading!
