Sunday, June 5th, 2011

Hey All,

For those of you that don’t know Thursday Roundups is a Toronto based photography group that I’ve been working on where anyone can come out and join us on a shoot.  At a specified place, at a specified time.. you can meet me (usually) and join in on the picture taking fun.  There will be things to learn, and people to get to know.  The first three Thursdays of each month will be shooting sessions with the last Thursday of every month taking place at 2D Photography and we will be discussing and comparing images from previous roundups.  We’ll also be holding giveaways to make the evening that much more interesting.

I hope to meet a lot of new people and have many opportunities to share my passion for photography.  There’s no fee involved in coming and anyone and everyong is welcome.  For more info on upcoming Roundups have a loot at the site!   Again that’s www.thursdayroundups.com!

Thanks,

David Dvir

Earlier today I was messaged by someone I have never met.  Not too uncommon in this line of work.  However this person wasn’t looking to hire me, they just wanted to comment on the Thursday Roundups.  With his permission, here’s what Clayton wrote.

“David

I have meant to message you for some time now. I wanted to tell you that I find it very inspiring that you have started up these Thursday Roundups and that it has grown in popularity the way it has, it’s a great thing that you are doing.

Having seen your original posts on Craigslist; I had planned on attending most of them but life has gotten in the way too many times. I have long considered joining a photo club in order to network and learn from other photographers, but have always shied at the fact that most of these meetings seem to be held at a venue where photography is discussed rather then getting out and shooting while talking, like you folks do every Thursday.

Despite not being able to attend, I have found some new locations to shoot thanks to you! I was very excited about the Cheltenham Badlands shots you got and had to head out there a weekend or two later to get my own shots and see it in person.

Keep up the great work and hopefully one day I will see you at a roundup!

Thanks again,

Clayton L. Gooding

Over on my side of this message, I was overjoyed.  I’m especially happy that the point of the Roundup is reaching beyond the Roundup itself.  We’re still just about two months into this little “experiment” and it seems to continue growing.  My hope has been to encourage others and give an outlet to those who might find it difficult to get out and shoot.  So it’s great to hear stories like these.  Clayton has never met me, nor has he attended a Roundup, though simply by keeping a watchful eye on our activities he’s taken something away from it.  Thanks Clayton for sharing this with me.  This makes my day!

Here’s a link to Clayton’s post of his badlands shots.

Hope to see Clayton and many more new faces at future Roundups!

Round Ups Going Well – Take Your “Pic” for Photo of the Week

Wednesday, May 12th, 2010

I’m happy to say that the Thursday Roundups are going pretty darned well.  Last week we had our biggest turnout with some unexpected company, and depending on how you count it I’d say we either had 9 or 11 photographers come out.  It’s starting to get really fun to get to know knew people and I’m still eager to see how this all develops.  We can check out the facebook group and feel free to join in order to get more info on dates etc.  Tomorrow morning we’ll be heading to Casa Loma and I’m pretty excited for that.  Bring your macro lens!!  Here are some pics from last week’s Roundup.

Roundups Are Becoming an easy way to keep shooting, all other things aside.

Saturday, April 24th, 2010

This last week’s Thursday evening was yet another fun one.  Saw a few new faces and I think we all managed to learn a thing or two.  Here’s my favourite pick from it all.  A shot of the inside of a diner or something.  A bit hard to tell but something about the shots sticks with me.

Centennial Park

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

Ahh that feeling of shooting… been really great to get out and shoot just for the sake of these past few weeks.  Particularly this Thursday we headed out to Centennial Park.  It was a suggestion from a Roundup member who couldn’t make it today so no one really knew quite what to expect.  Turned out that we managed to find a few spots to get some neat shots and what was even better, we saw some new faces join the Roundup group (which is essentially the idea!.. hopefully they enjoyed themselves…hehe).  The ball is rolling now and I’m extremely excited for next week to see how many people can come out and join us.  Again it was a fun day and great to meet a few more new photographers, learn what they do, how they do it and so on.  Too bad only one was a Nikon shooter ;).

One thing to note is that instead of using a Forum here to get updates and share pictures, I realized that perhaps Flickr group would be a much better solution to this.  So on that note, here is the newly formed Roundup Flickr Group! Feel free to join, but please only pics from our Thursday Roundups :).  I will be posting and discussing locations for upcoming weeks and perhaps taking votes on where others would like to go, as well as what times people might be able to attend etc..  I realize that not everyone will be able to make it every week, especially during certain times of day/night so I will do my best to ensure that we rotate between times of day.

And of course, here are some of the images that I personally took, but to see more and more importantly, images of others from the day, please visit the flickr group.

Forum Launch

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

forumThe Thursday Roundup is growing in popularity – honestly that makes me extremely excited.  Although I did realize that the common questions are: When? and Where?.  So in order to appropriately field these questions on a weekly basis, I’ve just launched a forum on the website.  There won’t be a link in my nav bar as this is not so much an open forum, rather a place to discuss the past, present, and future Roundups.  We’ll be able to share pictures and hopefully communicate ideas on where to shoot next, even make travel arrangements when possible.

You can find the link here: http://2dhouse.com/forum, or you can always find it on the links on the right of the blog page under “In House”.  If there are any questions regarding the forum, please ask away, and be patient, this is my first attempt at such an addition to my site, there may be some changes in the future and the forum may be moved, but I will keep everyone up to date regarding it!

As far as tomorrow’s Roundup goes.  There have been no final decisions made although Erindale Park, Port Credit, Streetville, or the roads of Milton are all currently options.  Hope to see some new faces!

Cheers,

David Dvir
